Liberties Press: Submissions
Search:

Liberties Press welcomes submissions of new work on any subject by both new and established authors. We also aim to publish work that has been out of print for a long period and that we feel would be of interest to the reading public. Please note, however, that Liberties Press does not currently publish fiction, short stories or poetry. For nonfiction submissions, please send a summary of the main themes dealt with in the book, and three sample chapters, to

Submissions
Liberties Press
Guinness Enterprise Centre
Taylor's Lane
Dublin 8.

Text should be printed on one side of the page only, with the line spacing set at 1.5 or higher. Liberties Press also commissions work from authors and would encourage people to submit ideas for books as well as samples completed manuscripts.

If you would like your manuscript returned, please enclose a stamped, self-addressed envelope with it. (Submissions from the UK and elsewhere should be accompanied by an international postal voucher.) Otherwise, replies to correspondence will generally be made by email. Liberties Press will do its best to deal with submissions within one month of receipt. Please note that we receive many manuscripts and are unable to offer advice on how those that we feel are not suitable for publication should be amended, nor to suggest which other publishers to send work to.

For details of Irish publishers and the type of work they accept, the Irish Writers' Guide (updated annually) is an invaluable source of information. For UK publishers, consult The Writers' Handbook. Remember that rejection is not necessarily a reflection on the quality of your work or on your talents as a writer: rather, it may well be that a publisher is not interested in the type of material you write, or that he or she feels that it would not be a commercial proposition for them to publish it. Make sure you know what type of material a press publishes before you submit it, and get someone to read over your work before you send it in: work that is poorly presented and full of spelling mistakes and typos gives the impression that the author takes little care over his or her work. Finally, remember that many of the most highly regarded and successful authors have received numerous rejection letters from publishers in their time.
