Risteárd Mulchay's autobiography Memoirs of a Medical Maverick has gone to press and is now available to pre-order. Risteárd charts his fascinating life in this open and frank account, beginning with his childhood days in Rathmines to his experiences of being an internationally-renowned cardiologist, including episdodes from his personal life which occurred along the way. Ristéard Mulcahy is a many-faceted person, he is the son of national military hero Richard Mulcahy and wrote a captivating biography about him My Father, the General.  He is also a health campaigner and advocate for exercise which he illustrated in his book Improving with Age - What Exercise Can Do For You and in his critque of the Irish health system in Is the Health Service for Healing? The many sides of Risteárd are represented in Medical Maverick which is sure to be an enlightening read about one of Ireland's intriguing personalities.

 

   

Dr Garret Fitzgerald at Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown Book Festival

Distinguished author and former Taoiseach Dr Garret Fitzgerald, will be appearing at this year's Mountains to Sea Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown Book Festival. On Sunday 12th September Garret will be in conversation with the well-known journalist and broadcaster Olivia O'Leary. Garret has enjoyed a vibrant and interesting political life. Now retired from politics, he is still an active public-speaker, a regular contributor to The Irish Times and is the author of several books. Research have found that women don't need to delay getting pregnant after miscarriage. The study of 30,000 women who miscarried and subsequently had a successful pregnancy found that those who conceive within six months of an initial miscarriage have the best chance of having a healthy pregnancy with the lowest complication rates.
