The Culture Club at Liberties Upstairs will be hosting a greetings card Master Class with Dublin-based artist and printmaker Camilla Fanning. Camilla will be facilitating a specialised workshop, in which participants will be encouraged to explore literary and poetic Christmas themes to produce their own individualised designs.

This is your chance to explore your creative side with a range of media looking at the potential of using up-cycled materials. At the end of Camilla’s Master Class, you will come away with plenty of new ideas. Don’t worry if you lack drawing skills, as this class is based on using cut-out and collage techniques.

In this workshop we will look at the possibilities of using a variety of rescued and found materials which can be collaged and combined. We will learn to arrange and layer colours and textures to embellish your card. We will use layers and textures of fabrics, papers, jewellery and buttons, custom made papers, old letters, maps and photos, tiny found objects and stitching. Do you have something at home you would like to incorporate - maybe from a special event? Bring these with you and they can become part of your design too!

Cost: €60 (All materials provided and the price includes light refreshments and cards to take home.)

Booking is essential as a minimum number of participants is required for the workshop to run. If you are interested please ensure that you book at least a week ahead. Call into the shop to book (cash payments only please). For further information about the class: please email info@irishetchings.com.

About the Artist

I am an Irish artist based in Dublin working primarily as a printmaker. My primary medium is classical fine art etching. My practice also includes Digital Arts (Soundscape, Animation and video) Assemblage and life drawing. I aspire to making an ArtBot. A recurrent theme of my work is collective memory and shared imaginings, often taking the form of landscapes. In assemblages, I consider delusions and insecurities, often referencing games. I have an ongoing interest in the social and cultural impacts of all things Digital and Cyber, and blog about these as well as giving the occasional seminar talk. Currently I am focusing on visual research and creative development on a major body of work ‘peripheries’ which entails in-situ drawing and sound research on the northern edges of Europe.

My work has been exhibited in New York and Dublin and included in several open submission curated exhibitions. It is held in the Archive of the Botanic Gardens Dublin and the GSD Archive; private collections in Ireland, the UK, Austria and New Zealand. I have studied in Dublin, New York and Berlin, and worked in Milan and London. I had my first solo exhibition in 2011 in Rigby’s Deli Diner (Thank you James!). My gallery representation is the Graphic Studio Gallery Dublin and the SO Fine Art Editions Gallery Dublin. I am a life member of the Graphic Studio Dublin and a professional member of Visual Artists Ireland. I have received arts awards from the Irish Arts Council, and Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Co. Co.
