The liberties Upstairs culture club

We held the first event in our new series on 24 June, inviting Liberties Press authors Caitriona Lally and Daniel Seery along to talk about entering the Irish Writers' Centre event 'The Novel Fair'.

the publishing process: from the inside

This was our second Culture Club session on 30 July 2015, which was a logical follow-on from the topic of our first evening. The Liberties Press MD Sean O'Keeffe gave a talk on all aspects of the publishing process. The talk was pitched at both interested readers and those looking to submit work to a publisher in the future.

We were delighted that our third Culture Club event was held under the banner of this year's  Heritage Week festival. Lynn Haughton, the founder of The Upcycled Movement came along to give a talk and demonstration.

For our September event, we invited editor and journalists Sam Tranum and Lois Kapila along to talk about their literary competition which has culminated (so far) in two successful editions of Love on the Road short story collections. Topics under discussion included the judging criteria, what makes a good short story and whittling down the entries to the final selection.

Poet Daragh Bradish came along to give a talk about the ideas behind poems for our October Culture Club session. We had a good evening of discussion and look forward to Daragh's upcoming debut collection Easter in March.

In a new departure for the Culture Club, we hosted a three-hour workshop led by Camilla Fanning on creating art using assemblage and collage techniques. The Master Class was aimed at anyone looking for inspiration and wishing to learn some new methods for creating cards and pictures using paper and found objects. Have a look through the gallery to see what was created!
