We at Liberties were very sorry to hear of the recent death of Leland Bardwell. Leland was a superb writer, from a young age. In her wonderful autobiography, A Restless Life, she described her classmates growing tired of hearing her name repeated each year, when she was awarded the school's literary prize ("again", as they put it).
We were delighted to publish A Restless Life (an appropriate title for a book, if ever there was one), and later her charming novella Girl on a Bicycle. Leland was a fixture in Ireland's literary and theatrical worlds for many years: I would love to have seen her one-woman show on the life of Edith Piaf - a woman with whom she clearly felt an artistic kinship. Our deep sympathies go to her family and many friends.
