It is that time of year again! When Autumn slowly gives way to winter as the clocks change and we leave for work in the dark to return home in the dark. When Halloween ends and the countdown for Christmas begins (evident by every shop window on Grafton Street!).
But more importantly, when the Bord Gáis Energy Irish Book Awards Shortlist has been announced and the real countdown is not until Christmas but until we find out the winners!
We are thrilled to have a Liberties Press author shortlisted this year and doubly thrilled that that author should be Declan Burke, a true gentleman and champion of Irish crime writers everywhere. It is fitting that Declan be honoured for his own achievements as a gifted author and see Absolute Zero Cool - his original, inventive, laugh-out-loud funny crime fiction novel - nominated in the Ireland AM Crime Novel of the Year category!
Declan was on Ireland AM this morning talking about Absolute Zero Cool. If you missed it, watch the interview here. Not only will it whet your appetite to read (or re-read) this unique novel but it also proves why Absolute Zero Cool more than deserves to be one of this year's nominees.
Perhaps the most remarkable thing about Absolute Zero Cool is its accessibility. It is undoubtedly a crime novel but appeals to a much wider readership than just avid crime fiction fans. All lovers of literature will enjoy this book for its characters, riveting plot, and above all its superb writing. It is also, among many things, a comedy. In today's interview Declan said, 'I really don't see why people can't have fun - either as writers or as readers - with the genre' and fun is guaranteed in reading Absolute Zero Cool.
