The launch of Sustenance!

Elizabeth Wassell with
Last Tuesday (21.06.11) was the official launch of Sustenance by Elizabeth Wassell. The venue was The (wonderful) Gutter Bookshop and it was our great delight to have Christine Dwyer Hickey launching the novel! A host of Elizabeth Wassell's fans and followers attended and among the guests were Elizabeth's husband John Montague, Seamus and Marie Heaney, Emer Martin and Roy Foster.

Seán O'Keeffe, Liberties Press Publisher, opened the evening with a warm welcome to everyone and declared that Sustenance was well worth the wait, referring to how Elizabeth has worked for ten years on this particular book.

Christine Dwyer Hickey launched Sustenance with warmth and enthusiasm, adding to Seán's praise of the novel and encouraging Elizabeth as her friend and fellow writer. She did make one suggestion that we would strongly second: read Sustenance with a fridge full of gourmet food! As the novel focuses on the life and loves of Lily Murphy, a restaurant critic, this novel features recipes and reviews to make your mouth water! So, be prepared, treat yourself to some fine wines and good food, and let Sustenance be a feast for all the senses! Elizabeth, herself, remarked that it was a pity Lily's restaurant reviews (included in the book) were fictitious as many of the restaurants are 'quite lovely'!

Christine Dwyer Hickey finished by reading an extract from the novel and handing over to Elizabeth, who shared a few words and also treated us to a reading from Sustenance.
Liberties Press would like to thank Christine Dwyer Hickey for launching Sustenance; Bob, Anne & Sinead in The Gutter Bookshop for hosting another lovely launch; all the guests who came along; and, finally, Elizabeth for writing a beautifully bittersweet novel.

Sustenance is Elizabeth's fifth novel and her second with Liberties Press (Dangerous Pity being her first).

Sustenance is available in all good bookshops and online at
