The Belfast launch of Down These Green Streets!

Declan Burke, Editor of Down These
Green Streets

Saturday night (18.06.11) saw Down These Green Streets by Declan Burke (Editor) being launched as part of the Belfast Book Festival. We were delighted that this title could be part of such a wonderful week of events.

David Torrans of No Alibis Bookshop, Belfast's leading independent bookstore and specialist in crime fiction, introduced the evening before handing over to Declan Burke, who said a few words and a few thank yous.

One of the twenty-eight contributors, Brian McGilloway was the featured reader for the event. Brian is the author of the critically acclaimed Inspector Benedict Devlin series; the audience, however, were treated to a reading from his new novel Little Girl Lost.

The Panel: Colin Bateman, Brian McGilloway
and Stuart Neville (L-R).
Brian was then joined by Colin Bateman and Stuart Neville and the three Down These Green Streets contributors answered questions from David Torrans and the floor on Irish crime writing. In response to being asked if crime fiction turned tragic events into entertainment, Brian replied, 'crime fiction reinstates a sense of order and causes people to believe that someone is fighting the good fight and justice will be done'.

Liberties Press would like to say a huge thank you to David Torrans, No Alibis, for organising an immensely enjoyable evening. Special thanks as well to Hugh Odling-Smee of the Belfast Book Festival for his help and enthusiasm in hosting the launch.

In the meantime, we eagerly await next year's Belfast Book Festival!
