Here at Liberties we love to celebrate our authors and last week turned out to be an especially celebratory week!
Firstly, we would like to extend our warmest congratulations to Eamon Gilmore, author of Leading Lights: People Who’ve Inspired Me, on becoming Tánaiste
and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade
. In Leading Lights
Eamon discusses the people who inspired him to enter politics, and have helped develop his political beliefs over the years. Such influential people are varied and include his grandmother, Ellen Gilmore as well as the more widely-known Martin Luther King Jr and Margaret Thatcher. This book is particularly poignant as Eamon embarks on his most important political role thus far.
Staying with the political theme, we would also like to congratulate Liberties’ author, Garret FitzGerald
on being awarded the Auditor's Medal for Contribution to Discourse and Debating
by the University of Limerick’s Debating Union. The presentation took place on Thursday 10th
March. Garret FitzGerald is a two-time Liberties’ author with Ireland in the World: Further Reflections
and his autobiography, Just Garret: Tales from the Political Frontline
. We believe the world needs to hear what Garret has to say, and we’re delighted that UL’s Debating Union agrees!
Congratulations, Eamon Gilmore and Garret FitzGerald!
